Favorite Hamptons Farm Stands

There’s something so satisfying about picking out produce and flowers that are so fresh and so local that you can literally see the farm right there. Talk about food-chain transparency!

Here is my list of farm stands to visit:

Open Minded Organics 

Let me start by saying that Dave has a huge personality. In high summer, they have the most delicious tomatoes ever in all sorts of heirloom varieties and his wife’s chilled tomato soup is also ridiculously delicious, somehow managing to be simultaniously rich and refreshing. I’d be remiss to not mention that he’s best known for his mushrooms, and has all sorts of straight up crazy looking fungi. He’s at various local farmers markets and now also has his own shop in Bridgehampton on Butter Lane.

Lisa & Bill’s (Babinski Farm)

During summer, they set up a small farm stand on the corner of Main Street and Beach Lane in Wainscott with a variety of fruits, vegetables and fresh-cut flowers. You’ll likely see Lisa running the stand and she’s just so sweet. In the spring and fall, they put out a table piled high with seasonal vegetables and a quaint honor-system coffee-can payment method. My favorite is their positively enormous stalks of Brussels sprouts; the various squashes and gourds are a close second.

Dayton Farms at Hardscrabble

At the corner of 114 and Stephen Hands in East Hampton, this farm stand has great stone fruit and seems to always have bunches of sunflowers. Come the holiday season they're also a popular stop for a wide selection of wreaths, trees, garland and all sorts of fresh greenery.

Milk Pail

It’s all about the apples at this Water Mill establishment. Apples, apple cider and freshly made apple cider donuts. Need I say more? Oh, and, apple picking in the fall!

Halsey Farm

The barn structures off Deerfield and Head of Pond in Water Mill can’t be missed. Inside, table after table are loaded full of local produce.

Iacono

Famous for their fresh chicken and eggs, and open year round. When you pull up, you can see exactly where the chickens are raised. Everything is bone-in and skin-on which is so different from your typical supermarket poultry. To capitalize on that, try this recipe by East Hampton’s own Ina Garten for oven roasted chicken breasts. For a whole-bird, this recipe by Thomas Keller is the best, and an Iacono chicken is just perfect.

Round Swamp Farm

Originally in East Hampton and now with an outpost also in Bridgehampton, this bustling market is a perennial favorite. In addition to fruits, vegetables, and cut flowers, they offer loads of freshly prepared foods.
