Get the Look: Graphic Encaustic Tiles

Hello there! Today I want to spotlight a popular design trend - graphic encaustic tiles. You've probably seen these out and about, from coffee shops to wine bars. But these are also being used in residential projects and bring a graphic punch to the space.

True encaustic tile is made of cement and the colors go through the entire body of the tile, making them very durable. If the surface wears down, the pattern will still be intact. In a residential setting, this durability makes them a great choice for entry ways, mud rooms, or other high-traffic areas. The tiles are hand-made and gorgeous but it can get pricy with prices starting at $15/SF and up.

There's good news for those looking to get the look for less - there are ceramic versions available for under $5/SF. It's important to understand that in the ceramic versions the pattern is basically printed onto the top layer only, so it won't be as hard-wearing. But, for a bathroom floor where there is much less traffic, or a wall or backsplash application, ceramic can be a great substitute and offer a substantial cost savings.

Is this a look you'd like to implement? Tell me all about it!

Until next time.
